December 2023: Downing Street, Dulwich & The South Downs

December started off in Dulwich North and the Village, to help campaign for GLA candidate Christine Wallace.

Visiting Dulwich Village was a trip down memory lane, and whilst it was wonderful to stumble upon stalwarts like Village Books, it was shocking to see the affect Labour imposed LTNs had had on the fabric, aesthetic and function of the village.

That afternoon I travelled to Bayswater to campaign for our local GLA candidate Tony Devenish and MP Felicity Buchan with colleagues across Kensington and Westminster.

The following week I was delighted to meet Michelle Donelan, Minister for Science, at the Conservative Young Women's Christmas party; before travelling down to Haslemere to help the MP for Arundel & the South Downs, Andrew Griffith, campaign with my fellow Conservative Rural Forum colleagues Jennifer, Lizzie and Rachel.

It was a wonderful day out and great to be back in the countryside, so close to where I had gone to school.

I was grateful to be invited by my friend Ronel Lehmann to attend the Maidenhead Conservative Association fundraiser with James Cleverly. The event, in which we were treated to a host of hilarious stories from local MP and former Prime Minister, Theresa May, was a superb Christmas soiree and all in attendance commented on how committed a constituency MP she remained before, after and throughout her tenure as PM.

As the Christmas spirit was in the air, it was time to commission my annual Christmas card from small local business Njeri Illustrated. This time we opted for a tongue in cheek nod to the year ahead with a festive take on Westminster.

It was great to catch up with fellow candidates and alumni at the Coalition for Global Prosperity's Christmas party, before catching up with Conservative Rural Forum colleagues at the Farmers Club. It didn't take much to convince me to try the house scotch egg, which my fellow board member Aled professes to be the best. It has become a strange mission of mine to find the country's best scotch egg (perhaps it's the Robertson in me?) This was definitely a top 5, but for now the crown remains with the Cadogan Arms.

Whilst tucking into my scotch egg, the memoirs of Lord Carrington caught my eye, which I duly ordered upon my return home and look forward to delving into over the Christmas break.

I rounded off the political year with a trip to Downing Street for the Minister for London's Christmas Reception, a wonderful treat and my third time at the world's most famous townhouse.

Later that evening I was delighted to attend the Conservative Environment Network's Christmas reception on the House of Commons terrace; and managed to squeeze in a few more campaigning sessions in Kensington, Chelsea and Clapham Common before everyone dashed home for Christmas.
